Anabelle Shivers - she was also my 3rd grade teacher. She graduated to the 5th grade too. We thought she was incredibly cool and she was. Single, tall and pretty and drove a convertible. She loved to read to us. Since retiring from teaching, Miss Shivers is a story teller and performs at those storytelling festivals.

When did you first start crafting?
Age 5 or 6 --I always loved the crayons, the scissors, the paper, making stuff and clay and playdough, etc. I went to a great school on the campus of the university that I work at now. We had art classes all the time and wonderful projects and art teachers & student teachers. Very progressive.

Got a day job?
Oh, yeah. Human Resources Professional at a university.

What creation are you most proud of and why?
It changes all the time. Right now it is a painting that I worked at when I went to a painting workshop with Kaffe Fassett. It's loaded with color. He's wonderful! He works in several different medias - we share a love of color. Google him! Buy his books. I love the process of creating and painting.

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
Too many to count. The ugliest was probably a milk can -those big metal cans that farmers used to get the milk to the dairy that I painted some horrible picture on. I hope by now it has rusted away in some landfill and is resting in peace. It also could be in some haunted house scaring children. There is also a bad painting at my mom's house. It is hung to the right of the Bad Hair Photo Wall of Shame. I keep meaning to redo it.

Explain your etsy shop name.
It's easy. My user id on Ebay is the name of my former two fish and I wanted something more descriptive.

Mean people suck. And today, I was one of them.

God the etsy forums have been on fire lately, huh? And some people have no idea how to express themselves without being complete jerks.

So today, I was a jerk in the forums too. I'm not particulary proud of myself. Usually I try to be funny or thoughtful when I post something for public consumption. I'm not going to say anything that's going to change the world, so why bother being negative?

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I would want to be like Clayface from the Batman Animated Series :D

I thought I could juggle it. I really did. But I can't.

I wanted to be able to blog about some new seller every day. You know, spread the good will and karma and all that. But I just don't have time.

Each post takes about 20-30 minutes to get up. I have to code things, then pluck pictures and load them on to this site.

That's 20 or 30 minutes I could be cleaning my house. Or rescuing my husband from a screaming toddler.

Don't cry. What we had is not all gone.

Sadly, I won't be here as much. Once or twice a week, max. But those one or two entries will be the butt-kickiest entries EVER.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled cleaning...

Would you believe that I stayed up until almost 3 a.m. this morning watching-- of all things -- The Burning Bed? I can not express how that movie transfixes me. No one does Sick-Of-Being-Beat-Up-Gonna-Light-My-Man-On-Fire like Farrah. The woman is my hero.

I've been crafting since I could use scissors. I used to cut out pieces of felt, construction paper, and other things and glue them together. Everything was topped with mountains of glitter, of course.

Got a day job? What is it?
I run an after school program for elementary school kids. That group has taught me patience, definitely. The kids inspire me every day.

What creation are you most proud of and why?
My Cinderella Story Box

The colors matched the illustration so perfectly.

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
When I was about nine years old, I cut strips of paper and made a "woven" basket. I couldn't get the pieces to stay so I covered the entire thing in scotch tape. I thought I was a genius. Thank goodness I don't have any pictures of it.

Pretty straight forward. My mother always called me creative, and I believe that when you find an item that is perfect for you, it has a certain sparkle to it. Plus its a homage to all the glitter I used as a child.

I honestly can't remember, which is horrible because it was not that long ago.

When did you first start crafting?
If I can consider my first crafting experience as coloring books, then I think I was two. If we're talking actually creating something from scratch, then I'd have to go with the age of six or seven. I would create custom cards and comic strips for my parents out of the same character. He had a spike mo-hawk and a lot of piercings and would say all of the things in the comics that I wasn't allowed to say or was too afraid to. Better than an imaginary friend, right?

Got a day job? What is it?
I'm an insurance agent. When people ask me where I work, I tell them to close their eyes and imagine the most boring place they have ever been. Now multiply that by ten.

What creation are you most proud of and why?
I was pretty proud of the last mural I did. Here's a pic:

The people that I painted it for have a beautiful custom home. I was so proud that they allowed me to be a part of creating a permanant piece of art on their wall.

Anything ugly I have ever made has been thrown away to erase all proof that it ever existed. Therefore, I have NEVER made anything ugly.

OK, it’s on the tip of my tongue, I can picture her. Nope can’t remember. I do remember her trying to help me with math but it was hopeless.

When did you first start crafting?
I have been crafting forever. My Mom is an artist and she discovered to keep kids still give them paper and crayons. As an adult, I started sewing again after I was married. My husband bought a sewing machine for my birthday. I have a friends, Jan, who has her own jewelry making business and she is teaching me. I love doing all sorts of creative stuff.

Got a day job? What is it?
Yes, I have been in law enforcement for almost 10 years. I was a patrol officer and now I am training in Investigations.

What creation are you most proud of and why?
I am really proud of a dress that is almost finished. I used a vintage remake fabric and a 1940’s pattern. I think it is one of the best I have made.

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
No picture. My upcycling attempt for the contest on Etsy was a disaster and I threw it away. It involved vinyl, fabric, and a JoAnn’s flyer. I was going to make a wallet with the flyer behind the vinyl and it really didn’t work. I threw it away.

My Mom has 6 kids so space was at a premium. She kept a corner to herself that she tried to keep us out of and called it her creative corner. I stole it from Mom.

Don't be afraid to do trades. It is a great way to get great Etsy items without spending money. Plus, your site gets "sales". My advise is to not leave feedback until you receive the item because there are probably a couple of shops doing it for sales and then not sending the item so that they can relist it. The only recourse you would have is the negative feedback.

I don't remember ever _not_ crafting. I used to set up "craft stations" for my younger siblings. In each station would be a different project. They would work on one project for about 20 minutes or so, and then I'd have them switch to the next one. It's a good thing I had so many younger siblings.

Got a day job? What is it?
I'm currently devoting all of my time to my business, but I'm a geologist by training, and I do plan to keep geology in my life.

What creation are you most proud of and why?
Right now I'm most proud of my blue mystery stone pendant. It is made from a rock I collected myself in the Sierra Nevada. A friend of mine cabbed it, and I wirewrapped it. It's not my most sophisticated piece, but it has special meaning since I collected the rock myself.

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
The ugliest thing I've ever made would probably be the first scarf I ever knitted. I don't have a picture, but it was an obnoxious bright purply pinky reddish color, and I skipped all kinds of stitches, the rows weren't even in size, and it ended up being about ten feet long because I couldn't figure out how to bind off.

I chose the name Lava Jewelry because of my background in geology. There's not much that I love more than molten rock. I went to college in Hawaii, where I'd spend every possible spare moment at the active lava fields on Kilauea, helping various people with their research or just exploring. I love the flow and curves of hot lava, and I think some of those same
curves can be seen in my designs. I like the word "lava" itself too - it's two pretty syllables. And I do incorporate lava into my jewelry; I make designs using basalt, rhyolite, and obsidian.

As a child, I used to do cross-stitch and tried my hand at crochet. During high school, I moved onto simple beading projects. Most of my crafting time disappeared through my college years (I was lucky to find time to read a book for pleasure, let alone craft something!), though I did take a pottery class as an elective. That was fun times! I recently got back into beading/jewelry-making.

I do. I'm a Network Administrator for an electrical manufacturer. Another cohort and I keep our computer systems up and running for about 500 users. Some days are easier than others... But, after being on a computer all day, it's nice to go home and bend wire or string beads.

My amber bracelet. It's one of my earlier creations. I decided to wrap the jump rings I made to give it some interest. I love how it turned out.

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
I made some pretty ugly Mardi Gras masks (think feathers exploding, glitter paint everywhere...) as a pre-teen.

My 2 year old daughter has a bear blanket lovey, one of those loveys with a small bear with a small square of fabric attached. One day, she started calling the bear "Mimi". Probably "Meme", more accurately - she is two after all!

I made the three dresden plates and I hand appliqued them on the quilt. Tedious work, but lovely.

What creation are you most proud of and why?
I had these really torn up Reebok sneakers while I was in high school. I bought some glitter paint and glow in the dark paint and went crazy. They were the coolest glitter glow sneakers on the planet. People would stop me on the subway all the time to ask where I had gotten them. I guess I was proudest of them cause I took something that the average person would have thrown away and turned them into something I had a really hard time parting with (the holes in the soles forced me to finally put them to rest.)I stopped wearing them but still couldn't throw them out. I might still have them somewhere.

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
The first abstract piece I ever created. I was feeling uninspired and bored but felt I should probably make something to get my creative juices flowing. Alot of people ended up liked it.

I'm a lucid dreamer that can control my dreams. When thinking of a company name I felt it should say something about me, something personal. Everyone that knows me knows how important my dreams are, hence the name Lucid Dream Designs. "Helping you realize and take control of your visual dream so we can make it a reality."

My house is full of etsy creations.

The coffee soap in my shower from Pegasus Soaps. The yarn from Larkspur Funny Farm, Hand Spun and Dyed Too, and Shunklies. The patches from Prize Pig, the dolls from Jennie's Art Love, the onesie from Lemon Cadet, and the little jacket from Quilted Blessings.

But one item is extra special to me.

Last month, I asked CC Creations to make me a memory box for my baby Jack.

Jack died 5 years ago due to extreme prematurity.

Since then, I've kept all his memories -- footprints, blanket, sympathy cards -- stuffed in the white lacy box the hospital gave me. I hate that box. It's so funeral-like.

I asked CC Creations to make a cobalt blue box with sunflowers on it. I wanted something pretty and happy, but not silly or cheap.

This is what she made me.

The butterflies were a surprise. They made me cry.

So thank you CC, for bringing beauty to a very painful part of my life.

Fellow Etsians, I know we all get caught up in selling our wares. We want to be successful and make money. And yes, we love the art, but let's be honest: sometimes that gets lost in the heat of the moment.

I think I may have tried macramé with my umbilical cord. I won a fire safety poster contest when I was in kindergarten. My mom has a flag that I knitted in 1976, when I was 7 years old.

I describe myself as an “Almost Full-Time Artist”. I haven’t worked outside my studio in about 14 years. These days, however, my daughter takes enough of my time that the studio hours are fewer and farther between than I’d like.

When I first got my spinning wheel, the results of my early efforts looked more like something that someone would create if they attempted to make a drawing of a cat’s hairball using a spirograph. I’d like to think that my spinning is improving, but it’s still not at a point where I’m ready to try competing with any of Etsy’s wonderful yarn artists.

Wow… I started calling my studio MysticSpiral after my first experience walking a labyrinth. At the right time, under the right circumstances, if you’re in the right place in your life, walking a labyrinth is like walking into your innermost spirit and then emerging again as a renewed person. Ideally, I have the same experience walking into my studio.

There are real smokers and there are pseudo smokers.

Real smokers are people who seem to have been born with nicotine in their blood. They can smoke anywhere, any time: washing dishes, swimming in the pool, on a roller coaster, giving birth, anywhere. To them, blue wisps of smoke in their eyes and up their noses are like mother's milk to a newborn.

Pseudo smokers are smokers who are always AWARE that they are smoking. Sure, they'll do it in bars or while drunk. But secretly, when no one is watching, they're waving smoke out of their eyes, airing out their clothes and scrubbing themselves with Super Duper Soap to get the smoke off their stained upper lip and off their yellow fingertips.

That was me. I smoked for four years -- Marlboro Reds -- and always managed to look stupid while doing it. But for the life of me, I know I would have looked FABULOUS with this goodie from the shop of Basil the Cat:

I'm a graduate student in entomology at Louisiana State (yes- that's bugs), and on the weekends I work at a local quilt shop here in Baton Rouge doing machine quilting and teaching classes.

What creation are you most proud of and why?
I'm not sure there's any one creation that I'm more proud of than others (other than possibly my first set of knotted pearls that don't slip- but they're not for sale) I really love that I've been working with using non-traditional materials (like scrapbooking stuff, letter tiles from games, vintage buttons etc.) to make awesome and fun things. I'm really proud of the alphabet soup bracelet and counting bracelets just because I think they're really different. I also like things that make people look twice...

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
Oh dear. The outfit I made for 4H-sewing when I was a kid... I remember ocean print culottes and a matching vest with shells and a teal t-shirt and tote bag. I asked my mother not too long ago "Why did you let me use that fabric... it's hideous!" and she replied "that's what you picked out, it was your project, you loved it." I guess that's what happened in the 80s :)

I made my bed spread. It is only the fourth project I made and I've yet to finish it, it is so big. It is the same double crochet about fifty million times, but it is so colorful. I made it entirely out of scrap yarn, so that is how it managed to be so colorful. Runner up is my cassette tape creations. I couple yarn with cassette tape and crochet items that way, bags and hats and coasters. Nifty. I also took my entire bedroom set and decoupaged it in fancy papers and ephemera, and stained it blue before sealing it.

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
I took two white shoulder pads out of a blazer, stitched them together, sewed a flamingo patch on it and then made a plaid design with fabric marker. It fits my iPod. It's ridiculous.

Make It Your Own ...is about me making useful things! For examle: purses, tapestries, pins, accessories, pillows, home decor, some clothing. I also make cards. They are much nicer and more personal than store bought cards. I have talent and creative ideas and I like to put my unique findings together and make something special that someone will appreciate and buy!

Mrs. Mele. She used to cry a lot during class because she always wanted to have world peace. Also, I remember her telling my class that her new cat at the time loved to eat earthworms. She was a character and I loved her!

When did you first start crafting?
I was too young to remember. The first thing I actually do remember making was a drawing of the world with little fishes all over it. I remember working on it for hours and hours and then I gave it to my dad. I must have been around three or four years old. Then a few years later I was able to go to work with him and I saw it in his office. I think he still has it to this day.

Got a day job? What is it?
This is my last semester in college right now and being a full-time student is my main job. My other job is helping to organize an after school math tutoring program for inner-city children. I love it, the kids are great and its such a wonderful feeling to see them learning and positively planning for their future.

What creation are you most proud of and why?
A necklace and earring set I recently made my mother for Christmas. I spent a lot of time on it and she wears it everyday!

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
Hmmm…I wish I had a picture of it, but I don’t. I was taking a color course and had to do a painting exemplifying anger. Apparently, it was really gruesome because my roommate at the time, who is deathly afraid of Bloody Mary, walked in my room while I was working on it and freaked out. It was ugly because it really looked like blood and guts were spilled all over the place. After my roommate would not even step in my room because of it. All in all, it was pretty funny scaring her! Hehehe….

Explain your etsy shop name.
Orchids are seen as a symbol of perfection, love, and beauty. During the Middle Ages they were used in love potions. It is also my favorite flower. I like to think that the Orchid is symbolizing my jewelry creations and exemplifying my love for my work and its perfection to me.
Why a black orchid? For the longest time, I’ve wanted a black orchid, but they simply do not exist. So, I created them in my imagination and named my business Black Orchid Designs.

Angelina or Jen?
Well to be honest, I don’t follow Hollywood at all and I really don't know what is going on with either of them, but going from what I do know I would have to say Angelina. She has put a lot of work and promotion into world issues such as AIDS, poverty, and children. I think she is putting her fame and influence to good use and working to make a difference.

What creation are you most proud of and why?
An "Oddball Shawl" that I haven't yet gotten Etsy-worthy photographs of. It won first place in the 2005 Tennesee State Fair for "Original Creative Design".

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
A crocheters' Yahoogroup once held an "Ugly Square Contest" and sold the resulting afghans to benefit one of our members. I'm not quite sure what this says about me: I won first place in 3 out of the 5 categories. *shudder*

I live on a mountain in Tennessee that is known locally as "Monteagle Mountain". Yes, that's somewhat redundant. (Monteagle is the only town in the county that abuts the Interstate.) When I decided to try my hand at selling my handknits, I went to sign up for a free email address that would be dedicated to crafty things. "Eagle Mountain" and similar were already taken, so I ended up choosing "Mountain_Eagle_Crafter". Several years later, it was the natural choice for my shop name.

Who? I suppose my not-owning-a-TV is showing.

Her name was Mrs Waldron and she was the meanest teacher I ever had. She would always give me pink slips and tell me I was holding my pencil wrong. (I hold it between my third and pinky fingers almost like in a fist instead of like normal.)

When did you first start crafting?
I started this kind of crafting about two years ago. My best friend's floydfriend inspired me to start doing chainmail, and I've only grown since then! I now use beads, and I've learned a lot more weaves since then. I've also started to get into sterling silver. Sterling is expensive!

Got a day job? What is it?
I do! I work at a hotel. Inside my hotel (Gaylord Opryland), there is a river. That is right. A river inside of a hotel. There are boats on this river. Real boats. I drive the boats and give tours while doing it. People listen to me and love me and sometimes they give me tips, but rarely. (Tip your tour guides if you enjoy your tour you guys!)

What creation are you most proud of and why?
I made a whole purse out of chainmaille once. It took a LONG time to do, but it was really cute! It sold on New Year's day. It made me really happy.

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
I make a lot of things in my head that just don't work out at all once I try to maille them into existence. I usually just take them apart and try to recycle the rings into something that's actually pretty.
Most people don't know that I make synthetic dreadlocks as well. I have made a TON of those that were just plain old ugly and fuzzy and would never sell.

First off, look how cute they are!

The Nashville zoo has a pair of red pandas, and I had a membership there so I would go see them once a week or so. They are adorable, and they walk pigeon-toed, and they scratch their butts on sticks. What's not to love? Sure it has nothing to do with chainmail, but I love em!

I don't really watch TV or movies, but I'd definitely pick Jen. I don't understand why everyone like's Angelina's lips. I think Jen has more of a natural beauty. And my boyfriend's sister is named Jennifer. As was my mom. I don't even know anyone named Angelina.

Yes it's true. One of my favorite parts of this blog is asking people to share their biggest craft disasters. I love how people can laugh about their early days at the kiln or -- ahem -- terrifying attempts to learn how to sew at age 35 when most etsy people are already sewing $300 dresses.

Sorry I can barely remember the names of people I met last month, definitely can't remember a name from 5th grade. My ongoing joke is that I'd forget my own name if I didn't have to tell it to people so often.

When did you first start crafting?
It feels like I have been crafting forever. When I was really young (elementary school) I used to make things for my mom, family, and close friends. Hopefully my ability and artistic skills have improved since them. Right now I dabble with card making, jewelry making, candle making, scrapbooking, stamping, and paper making. Previously I did some painting. In the future I'd like to try bead making and some woodworking.

Got a day job? What is it?
In my day job I do career counseling and program management. I use my creativity and passion for helping people to assist college students and recent graduates with identifying what kinds of work match who they are and what employers can employ them in those career areas.

What creation are you most proud of and why?
I am most proud of the items that I make for my family. I think it's because I get to see them enjoying it. One set I made for my aunt can be seen here:

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
I would not say that anything I make is ugly. However I once made an ice candle that was very unusual and probably not something that most people would appreciate.

Explain your etsy shop name
My unique spelling of Kathyy came about some 11 years ago when I met my husband in a Chicago chat room on IRC. I decided to use the unique spelling in really life because I like being unique and it's has always been a great conversation piece. It also looks interesting when my full name is written out. Written out I have a double y in my first name; a double n in my middle name; and a double t plus two sets of double e in my last name. For the second part of my shop name I thought that since I spelled my first name uniquely, I also want to spell the second part uniquely . . . thus came about Kathyy's Krafts. It's unique, concise, informative, and memorable; everything a good title should be.

Hmmm, if I must talk about a Hollywood figure I pick Morgan Freeman. He has amazing talent, an interesting life story, and reminds me a lot of my granddad who died many years ago.

Right now my shop is fairly small but I look forward to watching it grow as I'm inspired to create more things and hopefully get some custom orders. As for my current crafting adventures, I started making earrings a few years ago, just as a way to keep sane while I stayed by myself for an entire week. It just took off from there. I am full time student, studying Elementary Education. I also work part time for a home school supply business.

What creation are you most proud of and why?
I am most proud currently of the Mad Mad Monster hat. It was an idea I had, and I simply ran with it. I'm amazed at how well it turned out!

The ugliest thing I have EVER made would have to be what was dubbed "Chucky". It was my first attempt at an amigurumi animal, and it came out looking so, so deformed. So bad in fact, I destroyed all photos of it, as well as the...thing....itself.

When I first began making earrings, I was desperately trying to think up a name. I employed the help of my little brother, he came up with Beads with a Zing. A local store owner (where I have some of my earrings on display) gave me the idea of changing the spelling. So it then because Beedz with a Zing. I took it from there and chose the happy little bee as my mascot, of sorts.

Luckily, after 27 years of working for the phone company, I am happily retired. My day job now it being a mom to a 16 yr old daughter.

What creation are you most proud of and why?
I really like my Forever Calendars. Although I did not come up with the original concept, I created mine all on my own. I did the layout and took all the photos. I like this one because it is a variety of different flowers.

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
Fortunately, I don’t have a photo. In the mid 70’s, I macraméd a wall sized lime green with wooden beads room divider. UGLY! I’m sure it was acrylic cording, too.

Holy cow batman. When I first started an etsy shop (a different user name) i made these horribly shrinky dink earrings. I didnt have any jump rings so I used fishing wire to attach them, they were horrible! I dont have pics and if I did, I would burn them haha.

Name of my first Grade Teacher:
I only remember the name of my Fourth Grade Teacher, Mrs. McGinnis. She was so kind to a very shy little girl. At the end of the school year she gave me all the unused paper supplies (maps, etc.) to take home. My brothers and I spent hours playing school during summer vacation in our backyard in a tent made from a blanket over a clothes line. I have never forgotten her and that was back in the 1950's.

When did you first start crafting:
Maybe Jr. High School. I remember a papermache volcano that really lit up and had some sort of goop running down the sides for lava I made for the science fair in 7th grade. Did not have much help with it. And, the papermache bull mask I made in art class that was purple and yellow. I wore it for Halloween that year.

I have always made my own flower arrangements, wreaths, etc. I started creating jewelry 7 years ago after not being able to find a bracelet I wanted as a reminder of our first vacation to the Outer Banks. The one I wound up buying was only a stretchy and it was pretty expensive. I took a couple of basic jewelry classes at Jo Ann Fabrics and the rest has been all self taught.

Got a day job? What is it?
I have a very part time job that is perfect for my "last" job. I am a receptionist in a local beauty salon. I work a couple of nights and always Saturdays. I do fill ins too. It is seasonal. Right now it is slow. It affords me the time I need to spend on my Etsy shop. Been there over 2 years. Love the gals I work with, all 14 of them and my boss. Shop has been there for 30 years. Everything is done by hand. Kind of refreshing after years of working stressful office jobs. It pays for my beading lust!

What creation are you most proud of?
The creation I am most proud of is a lampwork necklace/earring set that I recently sold titled "Ice Princess". I had saved the lampwork beads for two years until I found just the right beads to go with it and a way to transfer into jewelry what those beads conveyed to me.

What's the ugliest thing you've ever made?
I don't think I have ever made an ugly thing. If I had I would sure remember it! Ugly is a no, no.

Beatles or Elvis?
I am a fan of both the Beatles and Elvis. They are from my era.

Chunky Monkey or New York Superfudge Chunk?
As for ice cream, that is a no no, too. I love ice cream but am slimming down for the downside of 60. 13 pounds and 15 more to go. But, if given the choice, I would probably have a double scoop of both!!

World peace or worldwide distribution of your crafts?
If I had a choice, world peace would be mine. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone could learn to get along in this world. I must be a dreamer. On the other hand, worldwide distribution of my crafts would be great!

I came out with a glue gun in one hand and a paintbrush in the other. No seriously... very young. I was ALWAYS the one making things, drawing things (even though I can't draw very well at all), gluing things (got a spanking for getting glue on the formal dining room table - it's JUST a table!), cutting things (another spanking story that I will spare you), turning something into something else (does mud into pies also count??) If it couldn't be crafted, well... I've never known anything that couldn't be crafted.

Got a day job? What is it?
I freelance write and I craft and I sell vintage clothing on eBay and other lovely venues. Do I actually go into an office? Not anymore, thank goodness.

What creation are you most proud of and why?
There are a lot of these but I will mention two. Firstly, I'm proud of the cool datebook sthat I make for myself each year. They are collaged on the front, back and throughout the inside and are funky and eclectic and FUN. Here are two of them.

I'm also very proud of kind of a gag gift that I made for my boyfriend. It was a corn crown (long but very funny and significant story) but was confiscated by Customs in Australia (he lives in Australia; I'm here in Mississippi). Luckily, I took pictures as proof that I really DID make a crown of corn:

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
Oh dear, the first time I ever tried my hand at sewing, I made the UGLIEST pair of khaki overalls. They looked like prison garb, seriously. Thankfully, I DO NOT have a picture of that hideousness.

World peace. I couldn't make enough crafts without falling over dead to distribute worldwide. Anyway, wouldn't it be oh-so-nice to be able to craft in a totally peaceful world environment?

I love many things, key among them are vintage items, eclectic collage, a somewhat cluttered look, the English language, words, fashion, quotations, cats, anything French, lavender, foreign films, coffee, yoga, beautiful nature and anything a bit inexplicable. Most of my crafted items will reflect those loves, or at least some of them. I have more ideas in my head than I have time to create, although it doesn't help that I'm also a horrible procrastinator. C'est la vie. I have big plans for my shop so stay tuned. If I even get HALF of what I have conjured in my head created, I will have quite a sweet little Etsy store. I also have plans to list scads more amazing vintage items, some of the possibly re-purposed. That will be fun! I have as many vintage clothing items as I have ideas in my head. Eeek! One of my favorite interview questions for this blog is "What's the ugliest thing you've ever made?"

Ahhh, so many memories.

When I was little, my parents used to dump clam shells in our garden's huge compost pile. I immediately plucked them out and painted them all sorts of Stupid: smeared smiley faces, crosses, stars, rainbows, you name it.

Then I'd stuff My Art in a Matchbox car carrier, knock on doors and hawk them for $1. EACH!! Some neighbors, God bless their big fat hearts, actually bought them. I can't even imagine what they were thinking.

Oh the shame.

The reason I bring this up is because our next featured seller -- Oblina Knit -- actually cops to making a two-headed monster costume as a child. I wish I could see the wonder of that!

Childhood – my friend and I used to make an array of halter tops for our Barbie dolls out of fabric scraps we would find in our houses. We were always doing something creative - drawing and playing with construction paper and glue, and making things out of stuff we found laying around.

I recently walked out of my ‘career’ job – and have never been happier! Now, I work at a medical services company, with great people in a great (and flexible) environment. It allows me the energy to come home and craft!

What creation are you most proud of and why?
The DillyLounger – my cats needed something and the commercial beds are too puffy, big & ugly…I love minkee fabric so starting playing around with it and came up with the DillyLounger – its portable and the cats love it!

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
In grade school, my best friend and I made a Halloween costume out of cardboard and paper mache - it was a 2 headed monster outfit - I think it ended up being more ugly than scary!

When did you first start crafting?
My earliest memories are of making things. My grandmother taught me to crochet, knit and even needle point when I was 8 or 9. Earlier, I remember sculpting out of that dough my mom made with salt, water and flour? That was probably my first medium (and my first belly ache--that stuff tasted good going down!)

Got a day job? What is it?
For 12 years I've worked for a local science museum going into schools and doing various programs on rocks and minerals, physical changes of matter, bubbles (you name it!) So one day I'm "The Bubble Lady" & the next I'm the "Liquid Nitrogen Lady". Kind of cool!

What creation are you most proud of and why?
Hmmm.....that's a hard one. Each piece has been a challenge in one way or another and I've loved to see it come together. Since the glass is my canvas I love finding unusual shapes or colors to paint on.

I like my martini set right now because I used the silver as the base and the colors as accents. Each glass is only one of the accent colors but the shaker has them all.

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
When I was about 10 I made this awful dog for my grandmother. When she died I found it in a place of honor in her china cabinet. So it may be ugly but it is beautiful sentimentally.

Hmmm....well I'm not always big on conformity (thus the Sassy) and I like painting glass.

I would have to say my cards. I really love flowers and I am always looking for new and different ones. It’s fun to see how they come out when I press them and what kind of paper I can match up with them.

Probably some of the stuffed animals I made when I was ten. It was my first experience with sewing. I truly wish I had one of them now. That was a really long time ago.

Oh poor pattern. How I eschew you.

Yes, you lead the way to fabulously detailed crocheted creations. And yet, I can't stand to follow directions. It's my cross to bear, I know.

So when I find a fellow yarn artist who doesn't follow patterns, I melt.

I was asked by a customer to make a long necklace with huge chunky red beads that no one would wear with some odd colors in between. She loved it but wasnt my favorite by far.

After 15 year of marriage my husband finally talked me to moving into the country; now I wonder why I dug my heels in for so long! I love walking out to the barn every morning to see the girls, listening to the roosters crow and just smelling the fresh, clean air. Goats are wonderful, loving animals that are always happy to see you. The soap started when we had gallons of milk and itchy, dry skin. Having been raised in an medically alternative family, natural healing and herbs was a way of life. I made a Travel Journal for a round robin and I absolutely love it. I used BFK Rives tan paper for the pages and used Keith Smith's not-so-famous buttonhole stitch for the binding. I bought some handmade paper from my friend, Ann Marie Kennedy, for the cover. All of the spreads focus on the theme of travel. The end result is really beautiful.

What's the ugliest thing you ever made?
Oh, I wish I had a picture... When I was in Fourth Grade, I made a paper mache Big Foot for a project. After researching the beast for weeks, I made the internal frame out of wire then wrapped the whole thing in strips of newspaper coated with gluey wheaty wallpaper paste. When the overall shape was finished, I painted it brown with flat matte poster paint. It was hideous -- and not in a good way. I hid underneath a table and cried. They sent me to the guidance counselor.

The ugliest thing I've made was my first mosaiced piece. I am self-taught and didn't know about sanded and unsanded grout at the time. The pieces started falling off. I show it to my students to show them how bad I was when I first started and that they will be great! And no, you can't see it!

To make money to pay the bills in "real life," I am a flight attendant which gives me a lot of time to do my art. Sometimes I make jewelry in my hotel room on my overnights.

None. That's kind of the point of this whole thing.

Etsy already has a Featured Member section, but most of the people chosen are very popular sellers who have lots of sales. There's a place for that here too, of course. Like I said, everyone is welcome! But I definitely want to spotlight new folks and smaller sellers.

I have fond memories of making spool critters with my grandma when I was a toddler - she kept a walrus I made in her luggage and he travelled all over the world with her.

My best work of art so far is my daughter, but I know that's not what you meant. I am proud of almost everything I make, so it's hard for me to choose.

I made a blanket for my husband when we were still dating and it is ugly, but at the same time, one of the most beautiful things I ever made. We use it everyday. I don't have a pic anywhere online.

Twig knitters, vine crocheters, rock jewelry designers, you name it. The mission: To take Adam and Eve out of their fig leaves and sass them up with a hand-stitched loincloth, lambswool scarf and limestone choker.

And it was good.

Fast forward a few thousand years. Today, crafty people direct Adam and Eve to Etsy.

At http://www.etsy.com, the artists come together to make friends, support each other, fight on the forums and -- of course -- sell their wares.

My name is Andrea and I'm an Etsyholic.
